According to the Equity audition notice, the musical will begin previews in October and will open in November The production declined to comment on the timeline in the audition notice. Columbia Stage Live was previously listed as a producer on the project, but it is now acting as an investor, after Vollack left the division to form her own production company. The musical is based on the film, for which Crowe wrote the screenplay. Per the notice, all roles have been cast.
Writer-director Crowe won an Academy Award for his screenplay to the semi-autobiographical film that charted the coming-of-age of a year-old music fan who lands a Rolling Stone assignment. Crowe has written the book and lyrics for the musical, which has music by Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning Next to Normal composer Tom Kitt.
