In September , it was announced that the show's final day of performance would be January 10, The show was then closed on January 11, and was replaced by a musical stage show inspired by Disney's animated film Frozen , which premiered in May The production is a Broadway-type show. Many of the scenes and songs from the movie are re-created on stage and some of the action spills out into the aisles, such as Prince Ali's arrival in Agrabah on elephant back. At Disney California Adventure, the minute production took place in the 2, seat Hyperion Theater, located at the end of Hollywood Land. While most of the show was scripted, the Genie's dialogue often changed to reflect current events in the news and popular culture. A low-tech, old-fashioned and campy version of Disney's hit film. By Lynn Jacobson. When it sticks to its low-tech, high-camp playbook, it is very, very entertaining. When it loses its nerve, it also briefly loses its way. But by the end, the show reaches its intended destination. Apparently these characters were created for the film but later cut, along with their songs, which turn out to be some of the best Alan Menken tunes of the evening. Babkak, Omar and Kassim — the aforementioned camel-riders — set a light-hearted, self-referential tone for the proceedings. And Omar and Babkak delight with a running gag involving puns on Middle Eastern foods. More recognizable from the movie are Aladdin Adam Jacobs , the street kid who falls in love with a princess Courtney Reed , and Jafar Jonathan Freeman , the villain who tries to keep them apart.
Aladdin is a stage musical based on the film of the same name. After successful runs in Utah and St. Louis, the show will make its' Broadway debut in the spring of at the New Amsterdam Theatre after a tryout during the holiday season in Toronto. The Genie appears and welcomes the audience to the middle-eastern city of Agrabah. He notes that Agrabah is a very diverse place, full of revered nobles, misfits, and even a few villains "Arabian Nights". Aladdin is a young homeless man who spends his days stealing food from the street vendors of Agrabah along with his three best friends, Kassim, Omar, and Babkak "One Jump Ahead". After being referred to as a "worthless street rat" Aladdin expresses his dreams of showing the world he's more than just a common urchin "One Jump Ahead Reprise ". He notes his guilt in thievery, having vowed to never steal again after the death of his mother " Proud of Your Boy ".
It is a rags-to-riches adventure about a budding romance, complete with a magical genie, a flying carpet, and hummable songs. The new live-action film is putting this ancient fairytale back into the spotlight, but the story has a long history on the stage. When Jasmine escapes the throes of the castle and ventures through the city in disguise, she meets Aladdin, a resourceful street urchin who catches her eye. Aladdin is then captured by the palace guards and thrown into the castle prison. Jafar, in disguise, promises Aladdin freedom if he retrieves a magic oil lamp hidden in the Cave of Wonders. Aladdin and his sidekicks find the lamp, but they get trapped inside the Cave of Wonders.
